Looking for a decent carving axe Things like hatchets, sheath knives, and old packs with bsa logos are just cool to me. I've heard good things about the gb hatchet and some of the higher end ones (s
Hatchet Ii
Djarv, etc.) but none of them ever seem to be in stock anywhere since they are not mass produced I like and occassionally purchase vintage bsa equipment from that era even though i am not as old the stuff i am buying Anyone have any other recommendations for a decent price, light weight, nice thin.
Hope this isn't heresy, but i plan on restoring an old plumb half hatchet for use as a camp ax
This one is about 50 years old Any info on the steel quality and type? The other was a greatneck hatchet You cannot see it in this pic but the great neck hatchet has the scandi grind but by the time you get to the back of the grind the blade is swelled to 1/4 inch plus thick
Which means the blade does not sink in deep However, if you had bucnh of 2x4 ends to split that thick part of the blade ends in splitting. Nothing in the woods has changed dramatically. I would like to rehandle a small norlund hatchet and the handles i have looked at are too large
Where can i find one sized for the bit?
To my knowledge, anything classified as a hatchet should fit on the side of a pack I went back and saw that the word axe was in the title Perhaps your trying to decide between a small axe and hatchet If that is the case, the intended use is.
In another thread there was a discussion on the topic of batoning and two camps emerged around the opinion of whether you can / should baton a hatchet or not There wasn’t a double dog dare, but there was a regular dare for me to try I’ve never owned a hatchet, so i figured it sounds like fun. I picked up this hatchet at an estate sale today and would love any information that i can get (especially when it was made)
It has genuine plumb on one side of the head and the bsa emblem on the other side
Handle says official scout axe. Looking for an inexpensive sheath for my fiskars hatchet It doesn’t have anything but the cheap plastic one it came with It serves its purpose but i don’t think i would be comfortable packing it with that sheath
Does anyone know of one that will fit The plumb hatchet / western fixed blade knife combos with a single, shared sheath really bring the bucks
