The clear silicone is a definite plus
I have a marineland tank (i haven't had it very long so i can't say if it's better or not) and the black silicone is a bit of a drawback I got it in sale at petsmart so i didn't pay attention to the seams Their silicone work is to be desired as well as it is quite sloppy
